Nicole Witt's artistry is indeed her heritage. Music is in her blood - a natural destiny - right down the line.
Nicole's grandfather was a fiddle player. Her grandmom played piano. Her uncle played the banjo and her father was a square dancer on the famed Ozark Jubilee TV show in Springfield, MO. Nicole's grandparents worked as a traveling family band. Her grandfather passed before she was born, but it was his spirit that passed on the bow... and he handed it right to Nicole.
Right from the very beginning, Nicole Witt's musical ambitions coincided with her personal and spiritual connection with her grandfather - whom she had come to know only through his music and his memory. Nicole's father had originally planned to display his father's fiddle behind glass as a family keepsake, but Nicole, then a third-grader, had a different vision. "I came home from school one day and told my dad I just had to play it," says Nicole. Play she did.
As a teenager, Nicole wrote and sang her own original compositions. Recognized for her extraordinary talents, Nicole was a four-year All-State violinist and Missouri's State representative to the National High School Orchestra performing at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Nicole went on to earn her music degree from the University of Missouri.
In the spring of 1998, Nicole became an official "dues-paying member" of the Nashville singer/songwriter community. Combining her tenacity and talents--vocally, sonically, lyrically and musically (on the piano and violin)--Nicole has earned her designation as a prominent song crafter among Nashville recording artists and publishers.
Nicole has had songs published by EMI Music Publishing and Curb Publishing. She has had songs recorded by Diamond Rio ("The Box") Rodney Atkins ("Angel's Hands") Clay Walker ("It Ain't Pretty But It's Beautiful") Terri Clark ("She Didn't Have Time") and George Strait ("Brothers of the Highway") which came out in April of '08.
" 'When An Angel's Hands Are Tied' is the very first song I wrote with Nicole. Right from the start, I realized Nicole was committed to writing a country song. '...Angel's Hands...' is not flashy. It just hits you in the gut. Nicole is all about creating something very different, but familiar and this song almost has a tortured elegance-- but it's real." - Rodney Atkins/Curb Records
An artist herself, Nicole has a strong passionate voice. She has been likened to Trisha Yearwood and Patty Loveless but also Sarah McLachlan and Sheryl Crow. She is a modern day storyteller who writes what she knows.
